One with One

You and me, let’s go!

Yesterday I embarked on my new One with One journey. With the belief and knowledge that empathy is an exercise that works best when done between two people, I got my pen out and wrote some letters of appreciation. These letters were to the OG patrons and supporters of Empathy Lab's efforts thus far. They've seen me cry, taught me things, and learned a bit from my passion and my presence. They've supported me as individuals and I've done my best to support them as well. They have showed me the importance of one with one empathy practice. This leads me to a new approach, One with One.

I am trying something different, something that I have been afraid of for quite some time. I am putting myself into the arena as Brené Brown talks about (ie. Man in the Arena speech by Teddy Roosevelt). While Theresa Ward, and I have dedicated time, money, and energy to building a scaleable empathy practice for teams and communities via the Empathy Decathlon™ practice, I've come to believe that the north star was a bit off. The vision of helping teams is still there, but the approach is off. Teams, companies, and communities are made up of people AND it is these people that I serve, not the group. Those that I support build the communities, the companies, and the teams. This is where One with One comes into play, me with you.

My offer

I offer you some of my time as a partner, empathy coach, and cheerleader. Through small personal touch points (letters, emails, texts, etc.) I am here to support and challenge your personal growth. Those that practice with me will be invited to attend a weekly Empathy Standup Zoom meeting, will be given simple homework to complete + share, and will be celebrated and supported by me and the One with One group. Details are still being worked out AND I am definitely interested in findings more ways to connect and improve this practice with you.

I am not a therapist. I am thoughtful, well experienced, and always practicing user experience designer. I am dedicated to the practice of continuous improvement and life enjoyment for myself, for my family and friends, for you, and for clients worldwide. As a coach + friend, not a therapist, if there are times that I feel you need professional help, I will suggest it (demand it!).

Join me in this One with One journey. I will be running it through Patreon, so head over there to sign up.

With energy,

Shelton
