Busy-ness

Busyness. Business.

Nature doesn't necessarily have a calendar. It has seasons that it flows through without thought and without regret. Leaves change color, animals migrate, flowers blossom, and the rain falls. Beauty is in this seasonal dance. Nature's flow works marvelously.

We humans used to have seasons when we lived closer with nature. We flexed with nature in order to survive, thrive, and enjoy life. We've gradually grown apart from the natural environment in order to obtain a more “comfortable life”, but at what expense? Our rigid need to control time for prosperity has made us busy beyond what is natural and probably healthy. Yes, we need time in order to work along side those around us, but how much time do we really need to dedicate to business in order to be successful?

I've had the calendar that looked like a bad game of Tetris. I've seen calendars that looked color coordinated and even worse. We schedule hours at a time to do things that really just keep us busy and don't amount to much business or personal progress.

How can you regain your lost time to busy work?

Practice self-empathy! Put your oxygen mask on first, say no to meetings, log out of Slack if you can, and give yourself some space. You are only as good as the energy and full self you are able to cultivate and share. Schedule a walk during work hours. Try not to give all your time to busy-ness and give more time to natural flow.

So, when are you going on a walk next? Send yourself a meeting invite, block that Tetris calendar. Ha, invite me to your “during business hours” walk, seriously.

With energy,
sD
