Empathy Friday #1

We are starting a new thing on Friday’s, called, Empathy Friday. Your end of the day, end of the work week, empathy in the world round up. Articles, quotes, exercises, and a single question from Empathy Lab for you to start your weekend. Well, here goes Empathy Friday #1!

One question
one picture,
one article on empathy,
and a quick list of things we’ve found / been shared.

Your weekend’s question:

What is the best gift you’ve given someone else?

All answers share with Empathy Lab can and will eventually be linked to here. Want to share your story, please let us know friday@empathylab.io.

Pictures of Empathy:

Spotted, a Georgia driver that is truly driven by Empathy. I must admit, I am jealous. If you or anyone know who this is, I want to interview them and find out what compelled them to get this license plate. Thank you Theresa Ward for sharing this with me. If the driver of this vehicle wants me to take this off the blog, I am more than willing, just let us know.

Deep read of the week:

The Real Meaning of Empathy
LinkedIn – Dr. Kristin Moody
An article by an amazing friend, Dr. Kristin Moody, about the misconceptions around the definition and meaning of empathy. She gets into micro-expressions, emotional contagions, and talked about empathetic exhaustion.

Found empathy related literature and events found on the inter-webs this week:

Lannin to speak on empathy and listening, November 9
Illlinois State Event Announcement
It sounds like assistant professor, Dan Lannin, Ph.D., will be speaking about “Why we don’t listen…”. It is part of the university’s Extending Empathy Project and is open to faculty, staff, and students. I will check to see if it is open to the general public.

Empathy Might be Killing You
Inc by Justin Bariso
A quick take on the negative power of empathy. Like most things that are over consumed, empathy will produce adverse effects.

All Call for Empathy

If you find articles that have piqued your interest and are things you want to share with others, please send them to friday@empathylab.io.

Cheers all and happy weekending!
